What: This 106 bed nursing home is in the middle of Swannanoa which was devastated by Hurricane Helene. The nursing home does not have city power or water. They are receiving some supplies but really benefit from visitors and caring souls to spend one on one time with the residents. We have brought painting supplies, music, decorations, sugar free snacks and drinks, therapy dog, and babies/toddlers and spent hours making a cheerful environment in their activity room and then visiting those that can't make it out of bed. Their favorite activities are crafts and music.

What: There is a need to hike into areas with impassable roads to provide essentials and do "wellchecks" on people that have not been able to leave their home. There is also an urgent need for people to visit the elderly and disabled populations in the area that have no contact with their communities. Wellchecks include walking to addresses and: checking the condition of their living environments, check if they have medical needs ( medicines, confusion, any other urgent medical concerns), check if they have drinking water and grey water, help flush their toilets and clean their living areas, check if they have contact with anyone and help them contact loved ones. These wellchecks have been an import endeavor with thousands of people still to be contacted and visited.
